Handel's Belshazzar: Tell it out among the heathen that the Lord is king!
Просмотров 6 тыс.13 лет назад
In the summer of 1744, along with the musical drama Hercules, Handel wrote the oratorio Belshazzar. It tells the biblical story of Belshazzar, the last king of Babylon, the fall of Babylon at the hands of the Persian armies, and the subsequent freeing of the Jewish nation of Israel.

Hector Berlioz: The Tempest Overture (2/2)

This composition of Berlioz is rarely performed despite being what contemporary composer Diana Bickley calls "one of the most lively and evocative Shakespearean works" in the repertory. Why is such an important work so woefully underperformed? According to musicologist Peter Bloom, Berlioz's decision to incorporate the Tempest Overture into his unsuccessful opera "Lelio" has effectively removed...

Handel: "Hallelujah" Chorus from Messiah, an English oratorio
Просмотров 140 тыс.14 лет назад
In this video, Les Arts Florissants deliver a punchy rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. Background: Handel's Messiah is the most famous of oratorios, in part because it is sung in English and in part because of the popularity of the Hallelujah chorus. The oratorio is a touchstone for many Protestant Christians. Handel himself was a devout Lutheran and the words in his ora...
Mozart's Top 5 Beautiful Arias for Female Voice - #5 Ruhe Sanft

Song Details: Two years before Mozart's first successful operatic masterpiece "Abduction from the Seraglio," Mozart began to write "Zaide," a German "rescue" opera that deviated from the norm of a male hero rescuing his lady in distress (like Belmonte rescuing Konstanze in "Abduction") and instead told the story of a heroine, Zaide, who rescues her lover Gomatz. Mozart never finished "Zaide", a...

Mozart's Little Opera - Bastien und Bastienne

Bastien und Bastienne, Mozart's little opera, presages Beethoven's Eroica. Don't believe me? Listen! This cute story about a shepherdess trying to win back her boyfriend with the help of the village soothsayer was staged here by the Salzburg Festival in 2006.
Betulia Liberata, Mozart's Only Oratorio: Overture
Просмотров 17 тыс.15 лет назад
An oratorio is a musical drama that tells a story from the Bible. Mozart wrote only one oratorio, and for his subject he oddly chose the story of Judith. In the story, Judith sneaks into the camp of the Assyrians, who are to preparing to wage war on the Israelites. She gains access to the leader's tent and cuts his head off. Without their leader, the Assyrians disperse and Israel is saved. This...
Masculinity in Wagner's Das Rheingold

In the still of morning light, Fricka, wife of the Norse god Wotan, paces fretfully. In the distance, she sees a towering castle, built on her husband's orders and exemplifying his incredible power. The castle is introduced with the heraldic bleating of trumpets, a five-note lietmotif (0:14) that asserts masculinity. The first note, high and mighty, stuns us with its power. The next four notes ...

Entfuhrung aus dem Serail - Chorus of the Janissaries
Whereas the center of gravity in the works of most composers is the first movement, in Mozart it is almost always the second. The rise in tension in the development section, through a series of modulations and suspensions, is one of the greatest moments in all of musical history.

Dei animus est hic.
Great performance!
Пока не началось ужасное стокатто на 4:03, это было идеально (perfect).
In terms of depth in heart and emotion, Beverly Sills' recording is unsurpassed.
Maravillosa Mitsuko Uchida.❤
❤
A really stirring piece and beautifully played. Such a shame this isn't better known.
So awesome
😊
"Woody Allen once said that Mozart's Symphony 41 proved the existence of God." ...? I don't know, but Sir Jeffrey proves the existence of prophets.
El mejor finale que he escuchado.
Snälla hjälp ukraina nästa är vad Putin behöver
Awesome.... Your rendition of Belshazzar is the one I have enjoyed most
any significance to the fact that she's wearing a dress that reminds the viewer of the American Flag?
My favorite version! I listened to this version like 1 million times when I was young. Took me 1 hour to find it. Im glad I did
Definitely my favorite performance of this piece!
❤
A beautiful way to begin my day
Wow!
Wow!
where are parts 2 and 3??
I believe I read that Bradley Cooper is going to portray Bernstein in an upcoming movie. I feel like I can see Cooper in this video, lecturing the students and the viewer. Hopefully they do Bernstein justice!
Mitsuko is one of my all-time favourite Pianist. So intense 😳 😬, every performance 😮❤❤❤. 🇬🇧👍
OMG listen to those winds move down the scale @ 3:04. Sounds like human voices. Just heavenly.
There is a great difference between Karajan and Bernstein, but you have to learn and respect this two Grand Maestros.
This is a magical rendition, definitely my favorite.
I wonder if Mozart was thinking about any of that, lol, when he wrote it...
What an extraordinary ability to explain music
1:38 this is not a XVIIIth century harmony, I can't imagine that there really was someone in 1788 who could hear these sounds... Mozart's complete dominion over sound and every area of music is something beyond what anyone could fathom
Although not sure about the rest of the symphony, this is the finest performance of the second movement ever --EVER-- recorded. Most performances of Mozart's music suffer from being rushed --as were the performances of Mozart's last four symphonies given at Carnegie Hall during the Mostly Mozart Festival about ten years ago. In this performance, every bit of subtlety comes through to a degree not heard in any other.
❤In the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG!❤
Come si chiama il ragazzo in scena?
I can’t believe we’re getting into a discussion of gender inequality on this! It’s effing beautiful music people. It’s meant to be listened to enjoyed. If Mozart could see some of the BS nonsense that people are arguing about as part of the comment section on one of his pieces of music, he would be dumbfounded.
Why did Bernstein say such negative things about Beethoven in his interview with that German actor, Max? BTW my Radiology Professor always presented Luigi as the example for Paget's Disease. Abnormal growth of bone after adulthood. The first sign is often that the hat is becoming smaller. His auditory canals laid down new bone, displacing and eventually crushing the nerves, causing his tinnitus and deafness.

Weergaloos. Gracias, pero muchímas gracias señor Tate. Guau...
He talks alot, but says nothing.
I'm sorry to deliver the news, but you're deaf.
I fave been watching this video for years. Ir is just sublime.
Grandmaster, one of the best pianist of our time! 😊
This piece is a colossal masterpiece...I'd say the greatest ever, until I listen to Beethoven 8, Dvorak 6-9, Sibelius 7, the Janacek Sinfonietta, among others...not that Mozart 41 is any less great than those...just that while I'm listening to it, it sounds like the greatest, which is the feeling you should get from any great piece of music..
Прекрасно! С Новым годом!)
He promotes work of others his own . he is amazing marketing guru
Still remember the first time I heard this... It was bliss 🙏💙🎼
To all of those who are new to classical music --you don't have to understand all these technical jargon in order to enjoy this amazing symphony....Just listen to the symphony with open ears and mind...actually listening and trying to understand to all of his elaborate explanations can be tiresome ...
How can one brain hold so much knowledge?? His grasp of so many types of music seems encyclopedic, plus he was a composer!
Exquisite, thank you 🙏
WOW . BEAUTIFUL WORK INDEED.
Each time I listen to this I get teary eyes. Our species is lucky to have someone like Mozart.
